CBD Oil for Acne: What You Should Know

CBD Oil for Acne: What You Should Know

CBD oil is becoming a common ingredient in beauty products, and for good reason. As a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, it’s a wonderful addition to any skincare regimen.

But what many people don’t know is that CBD oil can be an effective acne treatment. In fact, if you suffer from acne, CBD oil can work wonders for your skin. It’s even been proven to improve acne scarring in both human and animal studies.

How?

Studies have found that it reduces inflammation in sebocytes, our skin cells that produce sebum. It also heals and soothes the skin while regulating oil production. And as an antioxidant, it works to neutralize free radicals, healing the skin from environmental damage.

How CBD Oil Fights Acne

CBD stands for cannabidiol. It’s a compound derived from plants in the cannabis family, such as hemp and marijuana.

Acne occurs when pores become clogged with oil and bacteria, even dry skin cells. CBD oil fights acne by lowering sebum levels and working as a microbial to kill bacteria.

Studies have also shown that CBD oil also combats the overproduction of keratinocytes, or skin cells, which is another potential cause of acne. So, is CBD good for acne? The research is very promising so we recommend you try it.

Should You Try CBD for Acne?

If you’re looking for an at-home treatment for mild to moderate acne, you’ll love CBD oil. And there’s a bonus: it’s amazing for soothing sensitive skin. Which means if you’re one of the many people who struggle with benzoyl peroxide, retinol or other harsh treatments, CBD oil is a must-try.

How to Use CBD Oil for Acne

You can use acne treatments with CBD oil up to twice a day as part of an anti-acne routine. It also works well with several favorite skincare ingredients, including:

  • Arnica
  • Hyaluronic Acid
  • Ceramides

One thing to watch out for is ingredients that cancel out the soothing benefits of CBD, such as products containing alcohol. You should also be aware that research into CBD oil is still ongoing. It’s best to keep this in mind when pairing with other ingredients.

If you have questions, always consult a healthcare professional or dermatologist. If you need to consult a medical marijuana doctor, feel free to book a medical card appointment with one of our doctors.

Forms of CBD Oil

So how do you use CBD oil? Should you take a supplement or use a product?

Currently, there is evidence to support CBD oil for acne treatment in topical form only. Oral supplementation and smoking marijuana are not recommended for skincare.

There are many topical CBD products on the market; one popular product is face oil. Oils are perfect for almost every skin type and are easily absorbed into the skin; they’re also quick and easy to use.

Aside from oils, you’ll also find cleansers, lotions and creams for both body and face. But always remember to watch for comedogenic ingredients, which clog pores.

Potential Side Effects of CBD Oil

Side effects of using CBD oil for acne are rare, but may include:

  • A decrease in appetite.
  • Nausea and/or diarrhea.
  • Dry mouth.
  • Drowsiness or fatigue.

CBD oil for acne may also cause an interaction with other medications, including blood thinners. Always consult with your doctor or healthcare provider about using CBD oil if you’re on medication.

At this point there are no known interactions with other skincare products. However, you may want to do a patch test before using the oil in your skincare regimen. If you experience a reaction to CBD oil, you should discontinue use.

CBD oil is a gentle addition to any skincare regimen, soothing and protecting the skin. It can be an effective weapon against acne, and a great way to make your skin look and feel it’s best.
